Start your engines!

Back in the 70s, when everyone was totally stupid about fitness, my babysitter used to totally starve herself and then work out. She was super thin, yeah, but she was grumpy as hell, and frankly even though she was a stone fox, she lacked a certain glow of wholesomeness that one tends to appreciate in babysitters. My babysitter was a 70s waif, and even though it was totally cool to have a waif babysitter in the 70s, I would have rather had a healthy, nice babysitter.

Anyway, if you’re getting this little e-missive, it’s because you work out at The Firm. And if you’re working out, you should eat. And just because you’re eating doesn’t mean that you have to necessarily replace all of those calories you burned in class. There are ways to eat well, and be healthy and happy, and still get lean. And we have someone who can totally help you: Bobbi Horner started in September, and is The Firm’s very own on-site Licensed Registered Dietitian. Bobbi is your ringer for nutritional advice and food and supplement questions.

If you’re spending the time and money to work out on a regular basis, you might as well get your money’s worth and get a good workout, right? In order to do so, your body needs fuel. Bobbi can review what you’re “putting in the tank” and will give you some direction for better choices. Tis the Season to Detox!

Viva la SAMY!

If you have been to The Firm in the past 10 months you have surely seen the The Brazilian Cha-Cha-Cha named Samy Matos running around Personal Training and teaching CORE on Monday and Wednesdays at 9:30AM and Thursday nights at 5:15pm.

It’s hard to miss her: She’s suuuuuper hot! But while she may look like a Hottie Tottie with a Naughty Body, she has got a punch that could knock you into next week. She is a Russian Kettlebell Challenge Certified Instructor, which means that she’ll guide you through a workout with weighty objects that resemble old cannonballs with handles on them. These funny little blobby things pack an intense workout and, if done right, will deliver some extreme all around fitness. They incorporate strength, and flexibility, and are a powerful tool for fixing your body composition, whichever way it needs fixing.

OMG If you haven’t heard about it already I am sure you have seen pics on Facebook from Doug and Brads charity classes on Saturday. They teamed up to raise money for The MN AIDS Project. Doug wore the latest in Minne-so-tah red carpet fashion and Brad was none other than the Queen of Soul herself. Atta Girls.

And speaking of a couple of queens going Hollywood, The Oscars are coming up on February 22nd, people. Recognize. The Firm is proud to be a sponsor of the MN AIDS Project and DIVA-MN OSCAR NIGHT 2009.

Did you see that we got our very own FIRM water bottles? We had been resisting because we don’t want to seem like some of the other giant corporate clubs in town that have escalators to the locker room and like fifteen urinals in every bathroom. We are still, and we will be for evermore, the “Cheers of Fitness.” But now we gots us some sweet tricked out water bottles with our ass kickin’ logo on the label so you can casually show off to everyone where you work out without shoving it down their throat. Snow Blows

We all are so over the snow. It’s cold, it’s wet and it’s dirty but not in a good way like a dogs nose or your butt after a long run outside. It’s more like you just want it gone. Which it is…until it snows again, but it’s not gonna snow again is it?

Until then, here is a rule to live by (and you may live by this rule year-round, not just when it’s dumbfoundingly cold outside): you know the IMS parking lot across Aldrich Avenue from our front door? Whenever the arm is up you can park there. We have requested that the arm be raised Monday – Friday, 4:45 pm - 5:54 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am -10:00 am. But even if it’s 69 degrees outside and the arm is up you can still park there. Thanks, guys. You rock and snow blows.

You know what's dumb? Working yourself into the ground, needing 6 weeks or more off work for double-bypass heart surgery and then returning to work at half-speed for the following three years.
